My Fun $2 Project + a Money-Saving Tip

I'm about to give you a great tip that will save you money and hopefully inspire you to create something! It's the first thing I do everytime I visit a fabric store and I'm never disappointed. Here it is:

Always visit the clearance bin in the fabric department for discounted fabric remnants.

It's no secret that I am a big fan of the chevron print. And yes, I know they say chevron is on its way out, but I don't know who 'they' are and I'm pretty sure 'they' didn't ask me how I feel about it. However, I still like it and it will always be cute on girls clothes (and my living room curtains).
I also happen to be a fan of the aqua/turquoise/teal family. So, when I found this 1/2 yard of aqua/white chevron cotton fabric for $2, I quickly did the math in my head and knew this would make a cute skirt for my 10 yr old - without having to even make a cut. Win, win - people. It doesn't get much better than that.
I got home and got to work. Don't know how to make an elastic waist skirt? Check out this tutorial for all the juicy details.
My big girl loves her skirt and can't wait to wear it!

Do you shop the clearance bin?? Have you found any great fabrics for those quick and easy project ideas? I found more today and can't wait to show you what I make with those! Stay tuned....

I've been noticing a trend lately and thought I'd throw together a few links to good elastic waist skirt tutorials. I've done a few {click here}, but these are a few more that caught my eye and I wanted to share them with you! Elastic waist skirts are about the easiest clothing item to sew, in my opinion. Whether you're a beginner or an expert sewer, these are fun and easy! I hope these will inspire you to get your machines out and whip up a few for summer!

Please click over and check out these tutorials and show the bloggers some love.

Birthday Bunting Skirt {Tutorial}

We are gearing up for a certain little blonde headed girl's 4th birthday this weekend so I've got birthday party on the brain. I made her a ruffled pillowcase dress and matching capris yesterday and intended for her to have it for her birthday and for some pictures I was taking of her. Then, today I came across this picture and I had a vision. I love buntings {pennants, flags, what-have-you} and would have them all over the house if I wasn't trying to purge and deep clean right now. So, I figured, 'Why not wear one?!' Well, not me. But my little birthday girl! Actually, you can wear one I made for big girls - you can find it here in my shop, but this tutorial is for the little girl in your life. The link above shows you how to make one using that shop's supplies, but this tutorial shows you how to make one with the pillowcase you have leftover after making the pillowcase dress. Or just use a new pillowcase. The hemming is already done for you, and the side seams. All you have to do is sew a waist seam, thread elastic through and sew on your bunting! It doesn't get any easier than this, Folks!

Ruffle Front Skirt {Tutorial}

This is the last of my 3 elastic waist skirts I've sewn for my girls for Easter. If you haven't noticed, our color scheme this year for Easter is navy and kelly green. I found all three of these fabrics at Wal-Mart, believe it or not. I love these colors and I'm SO thrilled with how these skirts turned out! You can see the elastic waist skirt with sash tutorial here and the tiered petal skirt tutorial here. They will wear these with plain white t-shirts embellished with navy silk flower pins or fabric flowers. I still haven't worked out all the details yet. This skirt was easy to make, but if you find that my tutorial is not easy to follow, please feel free to contact me with questions. Have fun!

Tiered Petal Skirt {Tutorial Link}

I've been busy making my girls' Easter skirts and today I finished the second of three. You can find the first one here. This one today is {in my humble opinion} absolutely adorable!! It is because of the type of skirt, but more importantly, the fabric pattern that it is so cute. I am a sucker for polka dots. Add navy blue to the mix and I'm sold! I found this skirt on Pinterest, but here is a direct link to the instructions. She did an excellent job on the instructions for this skirt. It's very easy, just a little time consuming. {Totally worth it!}

Stay tuned for one more Easter skirt in the next few days!

Reversible Girl's Skirt {Tutorial}

You can make a girl's elastic skirt out of just about anything! I wrote this post the other day showing how to make one from scratch with fabric. Today I'm showing you how to make one from two dinner napkins! No hemming, Just simple stitching. It's amazingly easy. And I bought my napkins at Old Time Pottery for $1 each. They had a variety of colors/patterns, but I liked this one best for a skirt. This skirt is for my size 7 girl. It would probably fit my size 8 girl, as well. You can make these for younger girls, too!

Elastic Waist Skirt {Tutorial}

I'm not kidding you when I say this is the easiest and most versatile skirt there is to make! And everyone can do it. It doesn't take a degree in Home Ec or even an expensive sewing machine. We're talking basics here, people. This tutorial can be used for girls or ladies. Same principles, just different measurements. It's {SEW} easy! Try it. You must! And by the way, this skirt cost me less than $3 to make.
